Made-to-measure curtains in Newcastle
Sheers, drapes and blockout, measured to your window and made to the millimetre. We bring the fabrics to you, because the only honest place to choose a curtain is in your own light.
Sheers taking the edge off a Newcastle morning
One city, four kinds of window
The light decides the curtain
Newcastle does not have one window problem, it has at least four. We measure for the one your room actually has.
Coastal glare
Sea light is beautiful and brutal. Around Merewether and Bar Beach we hang sheers that keep the view and lose the squint, in cloth that stands up to sun.
Sheers & S-foldWestern sun
Out towards Fletcher and Cameron Park the afternoon lands whole on fresh glass. Sheer by day, blockout-lined behind it by night is the pairing we spec most.
Day & night layeringTerrace privacy
When the footpath is a metre from the glass, as it is street after street in Cooks Hill, a light-filter or a day-night pair gives you the light without the eyes.
Curtains in Cooks HillHarbour glass
Floor-to-ceiling views on The Hill and in Newcastle East deserve sheers that stack right back off the glass when the harbour is doing something worth watching.
Curtains with a viewWhat we make
Curtains first. Everything else follows.
Sheers & S-fold
The modern wave everyone asks for, done properly: track spacing set so the folds run even, stack-back planned so the glass clears, fabric chosen against your actual light. A sheer is the most Newcastle curtain there is.
Drapes & lined curtains
Pinch pleat, pencil pleat or eyelet, in weights from washed linen to full blockout lining. A lined drape made to the exact drop turns a bedroom dark and a cold room warmer, and it hangs like it means it.
Day & night layering
Two layers on one double track: the sheer works the daylight, the lined curtain closes the room down after dark. One window, both answers. This is the pairing that solves most of the light problems this city can throw at a room.
The part most people are never told
The heading decides how a curtain falls
Before fabric, before colour, the fold at the top sets the whole character of the curtain. Four headings, four different curtains from the same cloth.
S-fold
A continuous soft wave. Relaxed, modern, made for sheers.
How it fallsPinch pleat
Tailored triple folds. Structured, formal, hangs in columns.
How it fallsPencil pleat
Fine, even gathers. The classic that suits almost any room.
How it fallsEyelet
Rings on a rod. Deep, easy folds with a casual swing.
How it fallsThe Fold & Fall Planner
Plan your windows room by room
Pick a room, choose a heading, slide through the fabric weights and watch the window change, day and night. The planner hands you the vocabulary, a direction for each room and a plan you can bring to the free measure.
How made-to-measure works
Measured, made, hung
The measure
We come to you with the swatch books. Every window gets measured properly: drop, width, returns, stack-back, and how the light moves through the room. You hold the fabrics in your own light.
The making
Your curtains are made to those numbers: the heading you chose, the fullness it needs, hems weighted to hang true. Made-to-measure means made for that window and no other.
The hang
Tracks or rods fitted, curtains hung and dressed so the folds set correctly from day one. We do not leave until it falls the way it should.
On price: made-to-measure is quoted, not pulled off a shelf, because every window and fabric combination is different. The written quote follows the free measure, it costs nothing to get, and nothing is made until you approve it.
Also in the workroom
Yes, we do blinds too
Roman blinds are half curtain anyway, and they get the same made-to-measure care. We also supply and fit roller, venetian and vertical blinds where a blind is simply the right answer, and plantation shutters when a room calls for them.
